Honey & Houston - Ohiolina Music Festival Series

Honey & Houston - Ohiolina Music Festival Series

A band straddling the border of Ohio and Kentucky, straddles a mix of country and folk music with sweet, and subtly powerful vocals from both Heather Turner and Lauren Houston.  The band, similar to their fronting ladies, move seamlessly from a bluesy/alt-country sound, I.E Barstools and Bottles, to catchy country tunes like Leaving, and finally a sultry version of a spaghetti western, with Barcelona.  Making Honey & Houston leaving every listener feel spoken to, yet wanting more.

After winning the Cincinnati Entertainment Award in the country category circa 2014, they recorded their debut album Barcelona.  Barcelona is a prime example of a band showing off their ability to sincerely drift from genre to genre.  But after listening once or twice to songs like Warm Love, or Giving Up, you just might catch yourself singing along.  Which is good indicator that lyrics and melodies play a strong role in their song creation.

What makes Honey & Houston special to Ohiolina Music Festival, and similarly to their Cincinnati based fans, is how they make their music feel familiar, but still distant enough to be interesting. Pedal steel country solos, to powerful melodies and mandolin jams, Honey & Houston make themselves a regionally ambiguous band while still looking like they are at home.
